(Statement of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, from his website, www.explorehuckabee.com. Comments by Dave Leach are double bracketed.)
I oppose the current immigration bill that the Senate is considering because it offers amnesty.
[[What is it with this word “amnesty”, which used to mean forgiving former traitors for supporting a now defeated rebellion, while laws against treason remain unchanged, but now is used as if it means changing a stupid, nation-destroying law in a way that shows a little mercy towards the most tragic victims of your stupid law, whom you loathe for becoming illustrations of how stupid your law was? Any time you change a stupid law, you redefine who are lawbreakers. That is not called “amnesty”. That is called “changing a law”. See my article at www.Saltshaker.US/HispanicHope/Amnesty.htm]]
While I appreciate the hard work of the Senate and the Administration, this bill is not in the best interests of our national security, our citizens, and those who are patiently following the rules to become citizens. My number one priority is to secure America's border. We have to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here. We need a fence along our border with Mexico, electronic in some places, and more highly-trained border agents. Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported. Illegal immigrants already living among us who commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported. We must get our border under control before we deal with the illegal immigrants who are already here.
[[Replace quotas with criteria, and both problems will be solved at the same time. 12 million will stream out of the shadows here to get in a legal line, once one is created; and those coming will stop crossing illegally if there is a legal alternative.]]
I am opposed to amnesty - I believe that those who came here illegally years ago and are now law-abiding taxpayers must pay a significant fine as admission of their guilt and have a choice of deportation or a rigorous process toward legal status.
[[Why do lawmakers merit no guilt for perpetuating a law so stupid that it identifies people as criminals for trying to work hard alongside Americans, and provide for their families in obedience to 1 Timothy 5:8? If “rigorous” means keeping quotas at 100,000 per year Mexicans, while 100 times that many are waiting in the shadows for one of those spots in the legal line, it will be 100 years before our security problem will be solved. If you really care about our security problem, change the stupid law so that it does not draw a line around the liberties of a group of people where God did not draw any line. The “significant fine” was $4,000 for an individual in order to apply for a “Z” visa. $8,000 max for families. As long as you don’t care about national security, why not make it $100,000? But if you want everyone out of the shadows, as if you care about national security, attainable fees are necessary. It depends on what matters most. Blaming others for Congress’ mistakes? Then huge fines. Taking responsibility to solve the problem? don’t make it impossible for illegals to become legal. The other thing you may care about is a crime wave. Expect a crime wave if you uproot 12 million souls whose economic and family ties are here, with little place to go to, who will wait till the last minute trying to see how long internet sales, or working for yourself, will stave off starvation. Millions of otherwise honest, hard working, semi religious people will suddenly have a lot more desperate need, and a lot more incentive to dehumanize Americans. As the Bible says, we will “stink” in their nostrils, Genesis 34:20.]]
[[Mike Huckabee is a Bible believing Christian pastor who understands that the Mark of the Beast, described in Revelation 13 and 14, is the greatest sin of all human history in God’s eyes, and that virtually all Christian literature on the subject, best sellers all, connect the prophesied mark with computer databases identifying every man. The full implementation is almost always portrayed as an implantable chip under the skin, so the database without the chip is probably only 90% of the full Mark of the Beast. Can a Christian understand that 100% of something will take him to Hell, but only 90% of the same thing is the moral, the right thing to do? How is it possible for this Paving Crew for the Road to Hell to be led by Christian moral conservatives?]]
Besides stopping terrorists, we must weed out those with a criminal background or a communicable disease. We have to build a fence along our border with Mexico, parts of which will be electronic. We need more well-trained border agents and cooperation agreements with local and state law enforcement officials, so that we have a clear and consistent approach by all jurisdictions. Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported. Illegal immigrants who are already living among us and commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported. After we have our border under control, then we can address the status of illegals who are already here, about twelve million people. I am opposed to amnesty because we can't overlook that people have broken the law and must take responsibility for their actions.
[[“Amnesty” has been turned into a pejorative meaning any change in stupid immigration policy that is fair to illegals. For the history of the word, see www.Saltshaker.US/HispanicHope/Amnesty.htm. In God’s view, which ought to concern a Christian pastor who understands the understanding of “rule of law” of America’s founders, “any law which violates the laws of God is no law at all”. (Blackstone’s most famous quote; Blackstone was the most quoted source by America’s founders, after the Bible.) “Rule of law” means, not the legalistic arbitrary orders of a tyrant, but law which is applied equally to all; even to the king. By that definition, the greatest threat to “rule of law” is not disobedience to God-defying laws, which our founders counseled; but drawing lines around other’s rights where God has not drawn them, so that law is applied unequally. In Blackstone’s and God’s view, a law which is no law at all cannot be “broken”. Not even by “illegals” whose only “crime” has been to exercise inalienable rights granted by God which men have restricted.]]
Those who came here years ago, who are law-abiding taxpayers, must register with our state and federal governments and receive guest permits and scannable I. D.'s. They must pay a significant fine as admission of guilt for violating our border laws and have a choice of deportation or a rigorous process to achieve legal status. They must not be allowed to cut in line ahead of those who have followed the rules.
